EOS 3D Skeletal System Imaging

The EOS 3D skeletal system imaging is a state-of-the-art medical imaging technology designed specifically for orthopedic applications. It offers both 2D and 3D images of the skeletal system with significantly reduced radiation exposure compared to traditional X-ray systems. This X-ray scanner images the spinal column and lower extremities simultaneously on anterior, posterior and lateral views. It is used to detect spinal deformities, such as scoliosis and kyphosis as well as abnormal angulations in lower limbs.

It is used to detect spinal deformities, such as scoliosis and kyphosis as well as abnormal angulations in lower limbs. The scan lasts approximately 20 seconds. The patient enters the scanner and asked to hold position and level. Whole body or the spine may be scanned, depending on the situation. The device emits much lower dose of radiation when compared to conventional digital X-ray devices. Pediatric patients are exposed to one tenth of the radiation emitted by conventional EOS dose thanks to micro dose feature. It is used for planning and measurement before operations of lower limbs, since it can scan the entire length of the bone. Three dimensional preoperative modeling helps surgical procedures of patients with hip and knee problems or scoliosis.

Key Features of EOS Imaging:
  1. Low Radiation Dose:
    • The EOS system employs a low-dose X-ray technology, making it safer for patients, especially those requiring frequent imaging such as children with scoliosis or patients undergoing long-term monitoring.

2.Simultaneous Biplanar Imaging**:

  • Captures frontal and lateral images at the same time, providing comprehensive views of the body in a standing or seated position.
  1. Full Body Scans:
    • Allows for full-body scans that are ideal for evaluating conditions affecting multiple regions like the spine, hips, and lower limbs.
  2. 3D Reconstruction Capabilities:
    • The captured biplanar images can be used to create precise 3D models of the patient’s anatomy, enabling detailed analysis and visualization of bone structures and alignment.
  3. -Bearing Assessment:
    • Since imaging can be done while patients are standing upright under natural weight-bearing conditions, it provides crucial insights into joint load distribution and posture-related issues.
Applications:
  • Scoliosis Evaluation: Offers detailed assessment capabilities essential for diagnosing spinal deformities such as scoliosis by visualizing curvature in three dimensions.
  • Joint Alignment Analysis: Facilitates accurate assessments in knee or hip replacements by visualizing joint orientation clearly within respective anatomical contexts; helpful surgical planning purposes too!
