Zirconium Crown
Zirconium crown is an infrastructure material that structurally supports porcelain. Its biggest advantage over the old type metal infrastructure is that it is white in color and has a light-permeable structure, providing a natural appearance . Other advantages of zirconium crown coating are as follows;
- A porcelain structure that always preserves its color,
- Completely compatible with dental tissue,
- A coating that does not change taste or smell in the mouth
- Easy maintenance
- There is no hot or cold sensitivity.
- Durable, Esthetic
- Natural appearance
- Long-lasting
- StrongZirconium crown coating is generally used for aesthetic purposes on teeth that do not respond to whitening. In addition, zirconium coating is a preferred procedure for the restoration of excessively worn teeth, posterior group dental bridges, implant-supported prostheses and smile aesthetic operations.
When necessary zirconium crown?
- In cases where the gap between the teeth negatively affects aesthetics
- In case permanent discoloration occurs on the teeth and whitening procedures are insufficient
- Rotten
- Broken
- In teeth with excessive material loss
- As a bridge for missing teeth
- To protect root canal treated teeth that are too decayed to be filled.
- In cases of crowding, zirconium coatings may be preferred if the patient does not prefer orthodontic treatment.
Due to the light transmittance properties of the zirconia material the crown will have the same natural appearance of the patient’s existing natural teeth. Light passes through the enamel of healthy teeth, whereas, the metallic base of conventional porcelain crowns create an opaque, dull and artificial look to the teeth zirconia crowns eliminate these aesthetic problems.
Providing the patient submits to regular dental controls, zirconia crowns can last for many years. Natural teeth are living tissues, and may become deformed over time due to wear and infections, whereas zirconia crowns are resistant to change over time. However, changes of the mouth structure later in life may cause the zirconia crown to be adapted or replaced where necessary.
